Parts of speech are the types of words we use in English. There are 8 main kinds:
1. Noun – Names a person, place, thing, or idea.
Examples: Ram, cat, school, happiness
Sentence: Ram is reading a book in the school.
2. Pronoun – Replaces a noun.
Examples: I, you, he, she, it, they
Sentence: She is my friend, and we study together.
3. Verb – Shows action or state of being.
Examples: run, eat, sleep, is, are
Sentence: They run every morning and are very healthy.
4. Adjective – Describes a noun or pronoun.
Examples: tall, red, happy, small
Sentence: The red car is very fast.
5. Adverb – Describes a verb, adjective, or another adverb.
Examples: quickly, very, slowly, well
Sentence: She sings beautifully and runs very fast.
6. Preposition – Shows relation (place, time, direction).
Examples: in, on, under, at, with
Sentence: The cat is under the table.
7. Conjunction – Joins words or sentences.
Examples: and, but, or, because
Sentence: I like tea and coffee, but I don’t like milk.
8. Interjection – Shows sudden feeling or emotion.
Examples: wow!, oh!, hey!, hooray!
Sentence: Wow! That’s an amazing picture.
