Definition:

An article is a word used before a noun to show whether we are talking about something specific or general.

आर्टिकल भनेको त्यो शब्द हो जुन संज्ञा (noun) अघि प्रयोग गरिन्छ र हामी कुन कुरा सामान्य रूपमा भन्न चाहन्छौं कि विशिष्ट रूपमा।

There are two types of articles:

  1. Indefinite Articles“A” and “An”
  2. Definite Articles – “The”

Indefinite (अनिर्धारित):

  • Definition :Indefinite article means something that is not specific or unspecified.
  • When we use indefinite articles, we are talking about a general thing, not a specific one.

“Indefinite” को मतलब हो कुनै कुरा अस्पष्ट वा अज्ञात

यो कुरा विशेष छैन, केवल सामान्य रूपमा भनिएको हुन्छ।

How Consonants and Vowels Help in Choosing “A” and “An” (व्यञ्जन स्वरले “A” “An” चयन गर्नमा कसरी मद्दत गर्छ):

    • Examples (उदाहरणहरू):
      • A university (The “u” sound is a “y” sound, which is a consonant sound.)
      • A European country (The “E” in “European” sounds like a “Y”, which is a consonant sound.)
  • “An” is used when the word starts with a vowel sound, not just the letter.
    • Examples (उदाहरणहरू):
      • An apple (The “a” sound is a vowel sound.)
      • An hour (The “h” is silent, so the first sound is the vowel “o”.)

2. Definite Article – “The” (निर्धारित आर्टिकल – “The”)

  • Definition: We use “the” when we are talking about something specific or something that both the speaker and the listener know about.
